Week Eight of the Project:
Today we split into two groups for the first half of the session. One half of the group went down into Ventnor to film some of us using the cash point and talking about how we use our money to be independent and the other half filmed each other talking about how work is important. In the last half of the session we had a great time and experimented with some more animation which will feature towards the end of our film.

Week Seven of the Project:

We spent this weeks session shooting some interviews & talking about how the schools off-site accommodation for older students allows them to gain further independence by learning household tasks. We also produced two animations illustrating some of the chores and tasks carried out around the house.

Week Six of the Project:
It’s the start of a new term and now it’s the second groups turn to take lead on the project. We started with camera basics, making sure we all knew how to operate the camera equipment we will be using. We then went out and about around the school to practice our filming and photographic skills. Whilst we were taking pictures and filming we were thinking about all the things we do independently and then tried to capture them.

Week Five of the Project:

For this session we took advantage of the unseasonably warm weather to film outside the school. We planned to interview two of the teachers about how the school is supporting young people to become more independent. However, a few technical problems meant our shoot was cut short this week.

Week Four of the Project:
This weeks focus was all about finishing the animation. The class was divided into two groups with one group learning Photoshop skills and the other back behind the camera to capture moving images which will be used along side the animation. We are all very excited about the outcome….

Week Three of the Project:

Animation was the focus of this week. Using stop-frame animation techniques we made a series of “thought bubbles” to use at the start of the film.

Week Two of the Project:

We arranged to film some interviews with local shopkeepers to ask how they can help young people to gain more independence. We also shot some pictures around Ventnor to use in the opening scene of the film.

Week One of the Project:
After a discussion we decided that the focus of the film was going to be on how young people can become independent.
We then went out around the school to practice our filming and photographic skills. We also thought about some tasks that we can do independently.

The first planning session for our film project went ahead before Christmas and it was a tremendous success. Topics discussed included; the environment, becoming independent and bullying. One of these will become the main topic for the film that we will shoot in the New Year.
